Eating ABQ: Food Truck Holiday Extravaganza at Talin

December 8, 2012 by Kristin Satterlee Leave a Comment

This afternoon Talin hosted a “Food Truck Holiday Extravaganza” in its parking lot. Though perhaps less than an “extravaganza,” it was about twice the size of Talin’s Wednesday lunch food-truck pod, and the offerings were great.

Our first stop was The Seasonal Palate, which had promised fresh oysters for the extravaganza. Sure enough the menu listed a fried oyster po’boy, and we nabbed the last one. It was awesome. The oysters were perfect – crisply brown on the outside, perfectly moist and creamy inside. The bread was light enough to let the oysters shine. The only complaint was the fries. If you’re parked near The Supper Truck, with its amazing hand-cut fries, you need to step up your french-fry game.

Eat this!
Our second course was a tasty veggie-filled crepe from The Boiler Monkey, an incredibly cool converted bus. It’s the first food truck I’ve seen with interior seating – two little booths and a long counter with stools.

It’s vegetarian week, so we couldn’t try anything from the adorable Big Juicy’s BBQ truck, but my food-truck-loving neighbor Mary stopped by the house to tell us we had to try their pulled pork sandwich, so I am eager to give it a try. It smelled amazing.

Our beloved Supper Truck was there, along with Rustic – home of one of the best hamburgers in town – and the all-dessert Oz Patisserie. The weather was perfect and the crowd appreciative. I hope we see a lot more events like this in Albuquerque!
